Celebrating this nations birthday reminds us of the freedoms we have in this country, but this freedom does not come without sacrifice. The men and women that serve in our armed forces protect this nation and it’s freedoms. Although it may be easy to reach out to thank our military on holidays like July 4th, Veterans Day or Memorial Day, it’s important that we take every opportunity to give thanks and show gratitude to our military. So when the opportunity came up for Peak One Builders owner Mike Christensen to collaborate once again with Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warrior project to renovate a home for another US Army veteran, this general contractor in Scottsdale jumped in.

This time, the recipient of a new remodeling project is US Army Sergeant John Ricketts; a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, who similar to JAH4WW project recipient Sergeant Cory Remsburg, suffered life threatening injuries at the hands of enemy insurgents. Sergeant John Ricketts was injured in May of 2010, while serving as a gunner for the 101st Airborne Division in Afghanistan. When US armed forces veterans are faced with challenging injuries, their training, resolve and fortitude tends to shine. While this type of challenge can create difficult feelings and loss of hope, Sergeant Ricketts found a way to encapsulate these emotions and apply them into positive goals for the future.Sergeant Ricketts now has prosthetics and his dream is to compete in an off-road marathon involving a run through the desert, a mountain-bike race, and a competitive swim.
